MBSR Teacher mentorship

“Over the years of practice, I’ve come to realize that being shown the path of mindfulness is the best gift I’ve ever received in this life. When I was later given the opportunity to share the teachings and connect deeply with many others in their journeys, it felt like infinite lifetimes of gifts… it is boundless love and is a deeply humbling experience.”  ~ Carmen Teo

Many people including myself have found that the practice of mindfulness changes the way we see our own pain and suffering, and with continued practice, it gradually transforms our lives in a deeply meaningful and satisfying way.

If you are here to explore MBSR teacher mentoring, I honor your desire to help others transform their lives. Learning to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is a deeply rewarding process. It can also come with challenges, commitments and responsibilities.

formal mentoring

I am formally a part of the MBSR teacher certification process, as an approved Mentor/Supervisor with UC San Diego’s Center for Mindfulness’ Mindfulness Based Professional Training Institute (MBPTI).

Mentoring/Supervision in MBSR teaching is primarily for people who have completed their initial MBSR Teacher Training and who are enrolled in the MBSR Certification Pathway of the institute. The process towards becoming an MBSR teacher can be found in the above link.

What a mentoring process may typically include:

  • Online meetings to explore the intricacies of delivering the curriculum

  • Reviewing any challenges encountered in the previous class and preparing for the next class, while you are conducting the 8-week MBSR course

  • A warm, safe, and supportive working relationship where you explore individual ‘edges’ as a teacher of MBSR and ways of working with them in a manner that deepens your own practice and understanding of the teaching process

  • Explore and learn the art and skills of conducting ‘mindful inquiry’ in your classes such that students deepen insight into their experiences

  • Reviewing video and audio recordings of you teaching MBSR

  • Coaching in various ways, such as guiding meditations and ways to deepen your personal practice
